Adrian 'Noddy' Alston was born in England and was an apprentice at English club Preston North End in his late teens. Emigrating to Australia in 1967 he signed with Wollongong club South Coast United. After just two seasons in his adopted country Alston was called up for national team duty and became Australias number one striker for the 1970 and 1974 World Cup campaigns. During the 1974 World Cup tournament in Germany Alston was scouted and signed by English club Luton Town where he played for two seasons before moving onto Cardiff City for two further seasons. Moving to the US to join Tampa Bay Rowdies in 1977 Alston unfortunately succumbed to a knee injury in early 1978 which Precipitated his early retirement. Strong in the air Alston was a hard Running forward who loved nothing better than taking on an opposition Defender with his customary speed and step. After retiring from playing Alston has gone onto a successful coaching career with a number of teams in Australia including NSL club Wollongong City.
